‘Together We Strive For Excellence’

Year 3

Year 3 Team - Miss Adams, Mrs Golightly, Mrs Smith and Miss Mills.

This Half Term

English and Reading

Our key text that we will be focusing on this term is 'The Firework Maker's Daughter' by Phillip Pullman.

This book will be inspiring our writing within our English lessons and we shall also be picking the text apart in our reading lessons (RAID). In our reading lessons, we will be discussing the different comprehension components and also discussing the impacts that the story has on us as the reader.

Maths

We are learning the three, four and eight times tables and also related division facts. 'Hit the button' and 'TT Rockstars' are great ways to practice your times tables at home!

This term, we will be learning about measurement, looking at equivalent lengths, adding lengths and perimeter. As part of our 'sizzling starters' and 'weekly workouts', we will be revising methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

In the autumn term, Year 3 looked place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We looked at the value of each digit within a three-digit number (hundreds, tens and ones). We used the column method to add and subtract two numbers with and without exchanging. We also used the short method of multiplication to multiply.

Geography

In Geography, we are looking at settlements and land use. We will be looking at urban, suburban and rural areas and the typical features of these places. We will also be looking at how the land use of these places has changed compared to the 6th and 19th century.

Science

In our science lessons, we will be learning about light and shadows. We will be looking at what light, darkness and shadows are. We will be learning about how the sun can be harmful to our skin and eyes and investigating ways in which we can protect ourselves against the sun. We will also be exploring patterns in the way that the size of shadows change.

Art

In Art, we will be creating collages. We will exploring the artwork 'Henri Matisse, The Sorrows of the King, gouache on paper, 1952' and 'Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Saul and David, oil on panel, 1630.'

RE

In RE, we will be looking at holy books and why they are important. We will be looking at the holy books in different religions, their importance, what they contain and how they are looked after.

French

In French, we are learning the numbers to ten in French. Last term, we learnt the alphabet and how to greet other people in French and introduce ourselves.
